Goblinoid

Goblinoids have lived in Khorvaire for centuries. In times of antiquity they founded the Empire of Dhakaan and made up a significant component of the armies of the Five Nations during the Last War.

Appearance

Of all the races, goblinoids show the most significant differences. Typically all goblinoids have light brown to black colouring for both their hair and eyes. They each have broad flat noses dominating their face and sloping foreheads with pointed ears on either side of their face. They also have clawed hands and feet that assist them in climbing.

Goblins may have a light green complexion, hobgoblins can have a reddish complexion while bugbears can have a light brown in colouring. Bugbears are the most different in that they are covered in hair from head to toe.

Goblinoids from Breland

Goblinoids can be found in all of Breland’s major cities, including Sharn. Although they live in ghettos such as the Cogs District in Sharn and often speak their own language amongst each other, the goblinoids of Khorvaire have largely integrated with the lands they live in. Those within Breland worship the Sovreign Host in their own fashion, giving each of the gods a different name and emphasising different aspects to them.

When the goblins of Cyre broke off and formed their own nation, many expected the goblinoids to leave their homes and flee to this new land. However many, especially those who served in the Last War, see the former goblins of Cyre as their bitter enemy and so never entertained the thought of leaving their own homes to migrate to the home of their enemy.

Goblinoid Racial Traits

Goblinoids have the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity Score increases by 2.
Age. Goblinoids are considered adults by 14 and can live to be 50 years old.
Alignment. Goblinoids can be any alignment.
Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light up to 60 feet as if it was bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern colours in darkness, only shades of grey.
Goblin History. Whenever you make an Intelligence (History) check about goblin ruins you are considered proficient in the History skill and add double your proficiency bonus to the check, instead of your normal proficiency bonus.
Hardiness. You have advantage on saving throws against diseases.
Skilled Climber. You have proficiency in the Athletics skill.
Worker. You gain proficiency with a set of artisan’s tools of your choice.
Languages. You can speak, read and write in Common and Goblin.
Subrace. Goblinoids may belong to either the bugbear, goblin or hobgoblin subrace.

Bugbear Racial Traits

Bugbears gain the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.
Size. Bugbears are between 5 feet and 6 feet in height. Your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Slip into the Shadows. You may attempt to hide when you’re in dim light or darkness.

Goblin Racial Traits

Goblins gain the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Size. Goblins are around 3 feet tall and weigh around 35 pounds. Your size is small.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Nimble Escape. When taking the disengage or dash action you may move an extra 10 feet on top of your base speed.

Hobgoblin Racial Traits

Hobgoblins gain the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Size. Goblins are between 6 feet and 7 feet in height. Your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Critical Strike. When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon, you roll one of the weapon’s damage die one additional time and add it to the extra damage of the critical hit.
